You should read this Why We Write essay from a writer on Jeopardy.
I think about writers for the late night talk shows, sit-coms and dramas - but I don't think about them for game shows. And yet I find myself smirking often when I watch Jeopardy with my Mom (who is addicted to the show - it is her vice and I've learned not to call between 7:30 and 8:00 pm on weekdays.)
Alex Trebek might be the face of the game, but the writers put together all those witty categories and that signature Jeopardy answer, with the clue burried cleverly within.
